about the project
The First African Church Mission (FACM) Incorporated was formerly known and called the UNITED NATIVE OF AFRICA (UNA) Church. This First African fellowship in Christ was established in 1891 whilst St David's Parish Poka, was planted back to 1926.
Until the 1980s, this church was the only and main church in Poka. Both the Christians and Muslims lay ownership to it as it served as the only rallying point for all the indigenes. The existence of the Church brought to the village, the defunct Pobuna Teachers Training College and later the present Pobuna Secondary School founded in February 1970. These institutions of excellence had produced many highly placed eminent personalities in the Nigeria nation today.
POBUNA was coined from POB (For Pobo from Poka Community) and UNA being the church that anchored the institutions. Parishioners of FACM, then UNA, all over the country sent their children and wards to study in these Schools. This popularised Poka Community in general and the Church in particular. This Church used to serve as the Chapel for the Pobuna Students.
